College + Career Counseling

The College + Career Access Team

The Venture College and Career Access Department believes every student should have support regarding what comes after high school, whether that be entering the workforce, attending college, starting their own business, or pursuing the certifications necessary to help them achieve their goals. We begin the counseling process early on in our students’ high school careers not only to get to know our students and families on a personal level, but help them explore options and understand what opportunities are available to them after graduation.

We have counselors dedicated to serving students throughout their time in high school as well as our alumni counselors who follow our Venture students after graduation. We teach seminar classes, provide graduation planning, and prioritize hands-on support for both the college and financial aid application processes. In addition to this individualized approach, we offer personalized meetings with students, family programming, financial aid and scholarship counseling, test prep, PSEO navigation and coordination. After graduation, we offer alumni support for our graduates in many forms; from help navigating orientation and registration, to social-emotional support throughout the college transition, to assistance with course and major selection, to academic preparedness workshops. For our students not enrolled in college, our alumni counselors support career and workforce planning (resume writing, interviews, etc.), advise students who start academic programs later in life, and help with navigating the transfer process.

As a team, our mission is to provide comprehensive support, education, and assistance to all students and families in the Venture Community!

Current Student Support

For Senior Families

Financial Aid Support Nights (FAFSA / DREAM Act): January 16-19, 2024, 4:00pm-8:00pm

The College Counseling team is offering FAFSA assistance around your schedule

College is right around the corner for our senior students. An important part of the college process is applying for the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is a form that determines college students’ eligibility for student financial aid. This is an important process that we are hoping all of our seniors’ families complete.

  • The FAFSA applications take 30-45 minutes to complete

  • If your student needs to complete the CSS Profile as well, it will take an additional hour

  • Start preparing by collecting the following documents:

    • 1040s from 2022

    • W-2s from 2022

    • Social Security Information, Food Stamps, Disability documentation

    • Child Support Collection Documents

For Junior Families

Junior Parent Bootcamp, Spring 2024

College exploration

Students and Families, you’re invited to participate in independent college exploration where you can:

  • Learn more about paying for college, financial aid, application essays, internships, and more!

  • Listen to live information sessions from over 150 different colleges located all over the country through virtual events hosted by colleges.

  • Ask our office for support with this if interested.

Alumni

Alumni emergency fund

Venture seniors are making their post-secondary choices amidst job-loss, illness, and grief. Your support helps ensure that they can still realize the future they worked so hard for. Our persistence fund will help students stay on their paths to and through college.

A persistence fund means a student commuting to school doesn't have to drop out when their car needs a repair.

A persistence fund means that when a study abroad opportunity costs more than a student's scholarship, they are still able to attend.

A persistence fund means when a student's laptop crashes, they can continue to complete their schoolwork.

Your gift of any amount decreases the likelihood of students dropping out of college because of a relatively small but unexpected expense derailing their plan.

Please make your check payable to Venture Academy Persistence Fund and send to:
